A sorrowful incident was seen on Tuesday in the Laxmipur block of Koraput district. Three children drowned in a pond where one is successfully rescued but two died.
The incident happened in the Kebedi (କେବିଡି) village under Pipalpadar (ପିପଲପଦର) Grampanchayat of Laxmipur block. As per the sources, a new pond was opened in the Nuapada village near the Kebedi where the 3 children were playing.
Under some uncertain circumstances, all of them drowned in the pond. The villagers immediately reached the spot and rescued one boy. He is identified as Akash Nachika (7) son of Mr Bhagi Nachika.
But the villagers failed to rescue the other two children. The fire brigade was informed immediately. Later the dead bodies of the two children were rescued by the fire brigade.
They were idenfitifed as Sandhya Nachika (10) daughter of Pali Nachika and Jitu Nachika (5) son of Devendra Nachika. Later the local police team reached the village & took the dead bodies for postmortem.
