The incident took place on the Rayagada-Vijayanagaram railway line yesterday. The engine of the Samata Express, travelling from Visakhapatnam to Nizamuddin Station (New Delhi), travels about 2 km leaving behind 2 boogies.

As per sources, the Vishakhapatnam-Nizamuddin Samata Express started its journey from Vishakhapatnam station at 9:20 am. The train contains 22 boogies. It reached the Simanchalam, Vijayanagaram and Bobili stations within the stipulated time.

The train left Bobili station and was heading towards Parvatipuram when the two luggage boogies were separated from the train engine near Sitanagaram station. Neither the train driver nor the passenger was aware of the incident.

After crossing some roads, the train’s passenger carriages stopped. Without the two boogies, the engine ran about 2 km. Passengers were terrified to know of the incident. Fearful, most of the passengers got out of the boogies and stood on the side of the train line.

After the train was informed by the station guard, the train driver pulled the engine back and connected it to the passenger carriage. The incident took place 40 km from Rayagada station and the railway department has launched an investigation to know the exact cause.
