A tragic incident came into the light today morning. The Koraput police team were attacked by the villagers of Matikhal (ମାଟିଖାଲ) under Machhkund police station area yesterday night.

According to sources, Malkangiri SDPO Shri Shuvendu Patra was informed that ganja (ଗଞ୍ଜେଇ) was being smuggled in Matikhal village of Machhkund police station in Koraput district.

Receiving the information, he sent a 30-member police team to the village of Matikhal yesterday late at night. After reaching the village, the team entered some houses for a raid without prior notice.

However, the villagers reportedly attacked the police personnel alleging them of barging into their houses and misbehaving with women at night. However, after being beaten by the people, the police opened fire and ran away from the village.

But a constable named Pradeep Nayak was detained by villagers and was beaten ruthlessly, as per the information we received. Later, the Machhkund police rescued Pradeep Nayak. The 30-member police team was returned empty-handed from the scene after being beaten by the villagers.
