Jeypore town police yesterday seized a huge amount of ganja while transporting illegally out of the state and further arrested 6 people in connection with this. According to reports, the cannabis (ଗଞ୍ଜେଇ) was transported to Madhya Pradesh state from the Lamtaput area of Koraput.
The Jeypore town police arrested two people and the Jeypore Sadar Police arrested 4 people. According to sources, the Jeypore town police received a tip-off that a huge amount of ganja was transported via Jeypore to Jagdalpur area of Chattisgarh.
Based on the information, the police team conducted a vehicle inspection and successfully arrested two accused and seized ganja. They seized a total of 22 kilograms and 500 grams from them.
The two accused were identified from the Jeypore and Boipariguda town area of Koraput district itself. Police registered a case in the police station and a further investigation is underway, said town officer Sanjay Kumar Mandal.
Similarly, the Jeypore Sadar police seized 41 kg of ganja while transporting from Lamtaput area to Madhya Pradesh and arrested four accused. The police team led by SI P.K Mohanty were doing patrolling near the Dangarchinchi (ଡ଼ଙ୍ଗରଛିଞ୍ଚି) village area.
At that time, they were able to grab the ganja smugglers and seized a huge amount of ganja. The team further seized 2 motorcycles, 4 mobile phones and hard cash of 10,000 rupees. All the arrested accused were arranged to court yesterday.
