A piece of tragic news came to light yesterday from the Umerkote block of Nabarangpur district. Hundreds of tribals from a certain group destroyed the maize (ମକା) crop grown on acres of forest land.

They further burnt the houses of another group with traditional weapons and destroyed all the crops. About 100 families in 3 villages of Burja Panchayat under Umerkote Block have been living in the forest for 50 years and making a living by farming.

Since 2005, the Kusumguda Forest Protection Committee has been demanding the removal of these three villages from here. About which a conflict has arisen.

Yesterday hundreds of tribals were destroyed acres of maize crops in the fields. The crop has been destroyed before the harvest and more than a hundred Kandha (କନ୍ଧ) families are shedding tears after seeing this.

Not only that, the tribals have burnt the houses of the Kandha community living near the maize field. After everything was burnt to ashes, the families succeeded to save some household items from the fire.
