A farmer in the Koraput district committed suicide by eating pesticides because of crop damage. Such a sorrowful & tragic incident happened in the Nakulguda (ନକୁଳଗୁଡ଼ା) village under B.Singhpur PS area near the Borigumma block.
According to sources, farmer Dumar Harijan (ଡୁମର ହରିଜନ) age:60 of Nakulguda village under B.Singhpur police station was admitted to Borigumma hospital in critical condition after consuming pesticides.
He committed suicide due to crop damage. As per sources, he is a poor farmer & runs his family doing farming. He borrowed about 70 thousand rupees to cultivate his 3 acres of land. He hoped that after harvesting the rice, the debt would be cleared.
But all his hopes were ruined. His crops were destroyed in the ongoing heavy rains. As a result, he was worried after seeing the destruction of the farmland. He was stressed for a few days about how to clear the debt and manage the family.
Family members said that he tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticides last Sunday. On Monday the doctor pronounced him dead at the hospital. The police have registered a case and started an investigation.
