The effects of the drought are increasing day by day, with drinking water problems in some districts of South Odisha. At first, the Kolab Water Reservoir in the Koraput district was dry, causing severe water shortages in the nearby areas.

Similarly, drinking water is also a problem in some blocks of the Malkangiri district. Such a tragic and sorrowful scene has been seen in the village of Amlabhata (ଅମଲାଭଟା).

The drinking water problem has erupted in Amlabhata village in Podghat (ପୋଡ଼ଘାଟ) panchayat under Khairput block of Malkangiri. The people here are having a hard time in getting drinking water.

Although the village has a water pipeline, it has been closed for about a year now. Even after repeated complaints, it has not been practicable. Water pipelines have burst in various places, making roads worse. The villagers are very upset about this.

People are digging holes near the pipeline and storing water and taking water from it. Villagers are also drinking water from a small river nearby. If the block administration does not take action soon, then we have to surround the block office, villagers said.
