Western Odisha as well as our entire Odisha state is going to celebrate the holy Nuakhai (ନୂଆଁଖାଇ) festival on 1st September 2022. On this occasion, the government has ordered the closure of all public and private banks in the state.
This was announced by the Revenue & Disaster Management Department on Monday. The revenue department has asked banks and all other financial institutions to remain closed on Thursday for Nuakhai.
As per the information we received, the state government has declared a holiday on 1st September (Thursday) on the occasion of Nuakhai. But some opposition leaders wrote a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik demanding to declare a two-day local holiday for Nuakhai.
However, nothing has been said about the declaration of a local holiday for two days. Now the entire West Odisha is celebrating Nuakhai festival. For the past 2 years, due to the outbreak of corona, the people had to celebrate the festival in their homes.
Many people in western Odisha who live far away from their homes could not reach their native place to celebrate this Nuakhai festival. But this time, because of the lack of covid measures, the people of West Odisha have started coming home for Nuakhai.
We hope that everyone will celebrate the Nuakhai festival with their families this year and can enjoy their holiday.
