The suspicious death of Kanak Nial, a class-10 student of Ghotia (ଘୋଟିଆ) village under Golamunda block of Kalahandi district, spread all over the area. Various organizations and intellectuals went to the spot to meet the victim’s family and demand strict action against the culprits.
The girl’s family complained that their daughter was murdered. Kalahandi police administration has registered a case against only one person. On last 18th August, Kalahandi Police SP posted on his Twitter account that the incident was not malicious.
Due to this, there has been intense agitation in various organizations and intellectual circles. In a viral photo of the girl’s dead condition, the girl’s feet were stuck to the soil and the Kalahandi Bahujan Student Union called for a 6-hour shutdown yesterday.

The student organisation said that it was not a suicide but a well-planned murder. Bahujan Student Union under the leadership of All Odisha Scheduled Caste Federation was fully supported by BSP, BMP and other organizations.
The road was blocked at Naktiguda Street and College Street in Bhawanipatna town from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm yesterday. Due to this, traffic on National Highway-26 was blocked. Later, a procession was held in front of the SP office and a protest was held.
A demand letter was issued to the chief minister. It has been warned that there will be agitation from the village to Delhi in the coming days if the administration will not take any strict action against the culprits.
