The Jeypore Sadar Police yesterday seized a huge amount of cannabis (ଗଞ୍ଜେଇ) from a truck loaded with coal. Sources said the truck was going to Durg from Vishakhapatnam. At that time police team seized the truck on Jeypore-Koraput ghat road.
According to sources, Jeypore Sadar police got a tip-off that ganja was smuggling by a truck loaded with coal and the truck was travelling to Durg from Vishakhapatnam. So, the police team started vehicle checking on the ghat road at 3.00 PM.
The checking was conducted by Jeypore Sadar Police Station SI Rajkishore Barik and ASI Ganesh Prasad Behera with all the police personnel. At that time they stopped a speeding truck (AP-39UD-6639) and after checking they found 3 bags of ganja.
After weighting, it is found to be 62 kilograms. The truck driver was able to escape from the scene but the helper was arrested by the police. He is identified as Laxman. Police seized all the ganja and the truck.
The Jeypore police registered a case in the station and a further investigation is underway to find out who else was involved in this ganja smuggling case, said Jeypore Sadar SI. The conductor was later taken to court, as per the sources.
