A 10th-class girl student of a government residential school in Sadar Block, Malkangiri District is found to be pregnant. The student’s house is known to be of Saunliguda (ସାଉଁଳିଗୁଡା) village of Mathili block.
The story began like this, on 12th July the school authorities called the parents to the school saying that the girl was sick. The school authorities signed a handwritten paper and sent the girl home.
The case came to light after Asha workers and Anganwadi workers in the village brought the student to the hospital for treatment. However, the incident happened on the 12th, but the school authorities did not inform the police or Child Line.
There was no news from the District Child Protection Department but after the intervention of the media representatives, the police registered a case in Malkangari police station and arrested the accused and prosecuted him in court.
Now the question arises if the student is already 6 months pregnant, how come the authorities in charge of the school hostel did not know? Why did the school principal force the family to sign and send the student home without informing the police in writing and without consultation?
This is the main question that now arises. After the District Magistrate came to know about the incident, he directed the ITDA to investigate it and provide complete information immediately.
